Mission

The Cleghorn Neighborhood Center has more than four decades of experience working with children and families in the Fitchburg community in a “grassroots” capacity.  One major attribute that the CNC has, that most non-profits strive for, is community support. Over the past forty years, the Center has provided bilingual, bicultural programs and outreach to a highly dense, at-risk community. The Cleghorn community in that time has accepted and played an important part in the Center’s mission of developing the social, economic, physical, and recreational infrastructure of Cleghorn. The Cleghorn Neighborhood Center is in a true sense the ideal community center. We are able to identify the needs of parents during the daytime hours, which in turn allows the CNC to access and fulfill the needs of Cleghorn’s after school child population.

Vision

The Cleghorn Neighborhood Center’s vision is building strong neighborhoods in Fitchburg (with an emphasis on the Cleghorn neighborhood) and to strengthen the Latino and Latino immigrant community in Fitchburg.  We envision residents taking action in creating systems change.

The Future

Cleghorn Neighborhood Center is being seen as the leader for many Latino families in the city.  People come for information, services and programs. Because of our unique relationship with the community we are able to access the most vulnerable people in the community. As part of a three year strategic plan, we hope to create opportunities for disenfranchised young people and adults, primarily Latino and low-income, to organize solutions to the health and education issues that their families and the neighborhood are facing. This will be accomplished through four specific goals: building leadership and advocacy capacity among residents; enhancing community development and community building in collaboration with other Fitchburg institutions, building a strong and diverse Fitchburg by enhancing the capacities of the Latino and immigrant community and helping to establish a respected role for them in the Fitchburg community and community services that build the capacity of all local residents.

Board of Directors

Officers are elected for two terms and must live, work, or own property in Cleghorn. We are currently seeking board members to help build our organization. The CNC is incorperted under the United Neighbors of Cleghorn Inc. (UNC) Started by French Canadians during the anti-poverty movement in 1968 to improve the conditions in Cleghorn.
